The Sargeant Project is a service for HIV positive women, mothers caring for children affected by HIV and pre-school children affected by HIV living in Lambeth Southwark and Lewisham. The project provides a safe meeting place; a time for sharing and the possibility for personal growth.
This one day a week project aims to provide specialist support by:
Giving an opportunity for the women (some of whom are isolated because of cultural attitudes towards HIV) to share experiences with others from similar cultural backgrounds and encouraging peer support, socialising and sharing concerns as women affected by HIV.
Providing advice and information through invited guest speakers at the request of the mothers on issues specifically relating to parenting and living with HIV.
Providing relaxation and reflection via yoga and art therapy.
Providing access to one to one counselling where required.
Providing a space for children to play.
Providing days out.
Sharing and preparing a healthy hot meal which they cook for themselves and their children.
Providing transport to and from the venue for mothers and children living in Lambeth and Southwark.
