LEAT provides a number of HIV prevention services in the community and essential support to people living with HIV and to carers, partners and children directly affected by HIV. Without the support of volunteers it would be difficult to meet all the demands that are made on us. LEAT recognises that volunteers play a very important role and your efforts contribute greatly to the overall success of the organisation. Whether you're providing one to one support, helping at a group or space, fundraising, or raising awareness, the time you give helps us to promote the best possible quality of life for all people living with HIV.
Volunteering at LEAT will never be seen as a substitution for paid employment. The work of volunteers will be that of a supportive, complementary nature alongside paid staff. The roles of all volunteers will be clearly defined and agreed by both staff and volunteers. For this reason a written agreement of assigned tasks may be issued so that there is no confusion between the roles of volunteers and paid staff.
LEAT volunteers come from all walks of life and with a variety of skills, knowledge and experience all of which is important to LEAT. In return for your volunteering, LEAT will provide training and supervision will be given and where possible we will assist volunteers in achieving accreditation for their work.
All volunteers offering their services to LEAT will have their offers dealt with promptly and be given a warm welcome, which reflects the value we give to volunteers.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with LEAT, please write or email giving us your personal information; why you want to volunteer with LEAT; what skills, knowledge and experience you could bring to LEAT.
You will then be invited to come along to a volunteer open day. These run throughout the year and give you a chance to find out more about LEAT and to identify which volunteer role most suits your skills. All new volunteer meetings follow a standard format and aim to identify whether volunteering at LEAT is right for you.
If you then decide you want to apply, you will be asked to come along to a short meeting when your training will be discussed and you will be asked to complete a Criminal Records Bureau form.
